Hush, little baby, don’t say a word, Mama’s gonna buy you a mockingbird

mockingbird

F/7.1, 1/800, ISO 200.

If that mockingbird don’t sing,
Then we will wait till he’s done eating.

And if he’s done eating and he doesn’t sing

Then hmmmm? I know that the lyrics to the song are to buy a diamond ring. ( But what would a baby do with a diamond ring ?! ) 🙂

Interesting Fact: Northern mockingbirds tend to imitate other birds and sounds they hear.  This bird is very territorial and will not hesitate to attack intruders.  ( https://americanexpedition.us/northern-mockingbird-facts-photos-and-information )

  1. Great photo! This reminded me of Gary Lewis and The Playboy’s diamond ring song. 🙂

  2. Probably swallow it and then the whole unbelievable story would have to be told to the emergency services and Mama would get locked up. 😀

  3. Love it. I have a few resident ones in my yard and I love watching them feed off the insects on the ground. Heck, sometimes I’ve even caught them feeding in the air.

    • Thank you very much and great idea, maybe I will look in to doing that. I shall give you credit for it if I will make this happen. 🙂

      • Ahh, you’re the best! Keep up the high quality work. It is inspiring for bloggers, such as myself.

  4. We have lots of Mockingbirds, here. Ironically, though, we have a Blue Jay that has learned to imitate the call of Red-Tailed Hawks that nest in a tree in our yard every year.

  5. Beautiful shot!!! We once knew a mocker who added the sound of a car alarm to its repertoire. They are fascinating animals–thanks for sharing!

    • If that mockingbird don’t sing,
Mama’s gonna get rid of the useless thing.

‘Cause it’ll be jus’ an extra mouth to feed,
      On specialized exotic wild birdseed.

We could parody this song all day long!

    • Haha that is a good point too, I don’t know what a baby would do with a mockingbird. Thank you very much for stopping by and commenting. 🙂
