Great-tailed Grackle
Why did Frosty the snowman want a divorce?
Because he thought his wife was a flake
Interesting Fact: In winter, enormous flocks of both male and female Great-tailed Grackles gather in “roost trees.” These winter roosts can contain thousands of individuals, with flocks of up to half a million occurring in sugarcane fields in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley. Wonder how this bird feels about being called just a ‘common grackle’. Low self esteem?
Hehehe. I wouldn’t want to be common. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us. Happy Blogging! 🙂
The manner in which they hold their tail in flight like a
vertical rudder is an eye catcher.
Yes it is. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us. Happy Blogging! 🙂
Grackles. OY. I’d never encountered one until I moved to Texas. They aren’t in my home state of NC. Their calls can sometimes sound like a fire engine siren, winding up…then, they crescendo with a sound mimicking cracked glass. Scared the s*** out of me the first time I heard one.
They do gather in crowds. I’ve seen them cover all the trees in the HEB parking lot on FM620 in Round Rock. They resemble a murder of crows and are just as loud.
The males are funny when mating season comes. They chase females, making their loud calls and the females all look like they are bored. “Talk to the wing…” 😄
Yeah I definitely agree with you. I actually came across this one in New Mexico. We don’t have them here in New Jersey. Thank you very much for stopping by, sharing your story and your thoughts with us. Happy Blogging! 🙂
