American Black Bear
Why do bears have fur coats?
Because they would look silly in ski jackets.
Interesting Fact: Female black bears give birth to two or three blind, helpless cubs in mid-winter and nurse them in the den until spring, when all emerge in search of food. The cubs will stay with their very protective mother for about two years. ( https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/a/american-black-bear/ )

Lovely photo!
A thrilling and yet frightening sighting of magnificent Bear! How close were you to this master of the forest when you got this shot?
Thank you very much, I was about 25 feet away when I snap it and back away really slow. Specially that right behind her there were 3 cubs, but I could not get a clear picture of them, too many branches in the way. And I didnโt want to try to get a different angle, since she could have potentially try to protect the cubs. Happy Blogging! ๐
They are scary! But also awesome
I definitely agree I love watching them and they look so cuddly but i would not want to get too close. Thank you very much for stopping by and Happy Blogging! ๐
You too open lens!

Run! Run for your life!
Hehehe. Yeah that was definitely on my mind. Thank you very much for stopping by and checking out my post. Happy Blogging! ๐
Cool shot. Was this on ultra-zoom? Where did you find it? I’ve been searching for a black bear (maybe a bad idea) for the entire summer and haven’t seen any.
Thank you very much, I used 600mm lens. But I was about 25 to 30 feet away when I came across her and snapped this shot. But as soon as I took this photo I saw 3 little cubs behind her and I started slowly backing away. I try to get the shot of the cubs but to many branches got in the way. Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey where I came across her. Happy Blogging! ๐
I like the photo because it somehow transmits the feeling of fear that you must have been feeling. Maybe because the bear is partially hidden with trees – i.e. you were trying to take the shot without being seen.
Yep that is exactly what it was, and I am glad that the photo can tell the story. ๐
Great shot!

You too, and yes I loved it. ๐
I saw your photo and read your blog and remembered this:
One of my lecturers at uni showed us his photos of saltwater crocodiles. “Here is a saltwater crocodile in the resting position. Notice the belly is completely flat on the ground.” A lovely clear shot.
Next shot – “Here is the saltwater crocodile in the walking position. Note the tail is still in contact with the ground but the belly is raised a little.” Shot was slightly off-line.
Next shot – “Here is the saltwater crocodile in the running position. Note the belly completely clear of the ground and the tail also raised clear of the ground. in this position the crocodile can move surprisingly quickly.” That shot was blurred and tilted sideways. The lecturer admitted that at the time he pressed the shutter he was himself moving backwards at high speed., right before he turned around to run.
That is very similar to my situation hehehe. The only difference the bear didnโt charge me, but if I stayed a little long who knows. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing this with us. Happy Blogging! ๐
Actually, we stumbled upon a mother black best and her cub on the trail at the Anan besr observatory and she was actually quite reasonable. She originally rounded upon us as if to defend, but sat back down as soon as we backed away slowly. You are never supposed to run from a bear; you should make yourself look large and back away slowly. She ended walking right past us with a salmon and her cub in the opposite direstion
Wow that was very similar to how I obtain this photo. I stumbled upon her, took this photo and then I saw the cubs behind her. I started slowly backing away. She definitely saw me but didnโt do anything. I wasnโt going to wait around to take the picture of the cubs a little to close for my comfort. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your story and Happy Blogging! ๐
