Day 17 / 365
I feel bad for this heron, the lake is frozen. Imagine your refrigerator is empty and all the stores are closed. 😦
Interesting Fact: Great blue herons have been known to choke to death by attempting to swallow fish too large for their long, S-shaped necks. ( http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/birds/great-blue-heron/ )

Another great post. We have a duck pond in my old neighborhood and every once in awhile we see a Blue Heron On it. It feels like a good omen, a good luck sign. My g’kids and I get so excited to see him. I saw him in flight yesterday.
Thank you and they are a lot of fun to watch, and I love seeing them in flight. 🙂
Poor bird, he needs to fly south. 👍
If I was him that’s what I would do. 🙂
He may have to consider eating frozen fish 🙂
🙂 I guess frozen fish is better then no fish.
Amazing
Thank you 🙂
great shot…. i do believe their feathers create a vacuum and so it may not be as cold as it looks.. : ))
Thank you, I hope that is true because I felt really bad for him.
They will find something 🙂 Good shot though.
I hope so and thank you for enjoying my work 🙂
It’s lovely.
Thank you glad that you like it. 🙂
Great shot and interesting bit of information. Gee that looks cold.
It was cold that day and thank you for enjoying my work. 🙂
Looks beautiful at the same time as being freezing and miserable! Great shot!
Thank you very much glad that you liked my work. 🙂
Good shot. I’m seeing more and more GBH in Chicago area. They seem to be doing well.
Wow in Chicago then they might be ok in this kind of condition. Thank you for enjoying my work. 🙂
Amazing ❤
Thank you 🙂
You’re welcome 🙂
great photo, I do have to ask about the heron’s leg, does the the heron have one leg tucked in or did you notice that it only had the one leg?
Thank you very much, and the heron leg is in, because after few minutes he started walking around. 🙂
It’s nice that you were able to catch the heron standing on just one leg
Thank you glad that you liked it. 🙂
Oh no! So, in addition to rescuing stray dogs, cats, baby hawks, possums, road-crossing turtles, I now have to keep an eye out for choking herons. How do you give the Heimlich to a heron, I wonder? (Disclaimer: probably not a good idea. Shore birds like this one can do a great deal of damage with their beaks. Please be cautious/aware of such when rescuing shore birds, etc. <–ex-wildlife volunteer)
Thank you for stopping by and sheering with me. And that is amazing what you do and I bow to you. 🙂
amazing!!!
Thank you 🙂
That was also meant to be funny…LOL
I can never tell. Lol
Oh, what’s really rad is that some guy has invented prosthetic for shore birds who have lost their legs. You can see them in action at Save Our Seabirds!
a prosthetic leg, rather
I love your photography! It’s so awesome and the fun facts underneath are so fun to read. 😀
