Sunflower

Day 207 / 365

Why does a farmer have to wear dark sunglasses?

Because he grows sunflowers.

Interesting Fact: Sunflowers are very fast growing plants, in the right conditions they can grow 8-12 feet (2.4 m – 3.7 m) tall in six months. As of 2012, the Guinness World Record for the tallest sunflower is 8.23 m (27 ft) for a sunflower grown in Germany. ( http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/plants/sunflowers.html )

And I thought one year that I had really tall ones at about 6ft. Never realized until then how heavy with seeds they were. Nice post.

Inevitably sunflowers grow in my yard from fallen seed. We had so much rain it’s been a bumper crop year and the squirrels have already started attacking one for fresh seeds. šŸ™‚

There’s something strangely captivating about this but I can’t put my finger on it right now. It makes me smile and that can only be good.
