Dominican Brother From Another Mother

hispaniolan woodpecker

Hispaniolan Woodpecker

f/5.6, 1/125, ISO 900.

Caught this pecker, pecking away, pecking so hard that the palm tree kept swaying. Don’t peck so hard my little friend because you may go limp at the end.

I came across Hispaniolan Woodpecker in Dominican Republic, its very similar to Red-Bellied Woodpecker of my very first post.

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Red-Bellied Woodpecker

F/8.0, 1/1000, ISO 800.

Interesting Fact: Their habitat, which is restricted to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, extends from the coasts, over the deserts to the mountains of the island.  ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispaniolan_woodpecker )

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love your captions. I would love to have that talent. With my connection or slow browser, I haven’t been able to load all the photos, but have enjoyed the ones I have seen. Your captions really do add to the posts!

Ahhhh thank you. I watched the Red-Bellied Woodpecker dart in and out of the bird feeder for much of the summer. I hadn’t a clue, as to its name, until now. It was large for a Woodpecker.

very nice pictures! I wonder if the woodpecker might have been feeling stressed about something… if stress is something they go through!?

Your visits to my blog haven’t gone unnoticed. Thanks for stopping by. Your photographs are lovely! I had a large Pileated Woodpecker visit this morning… a rare treat for me. Although they aren’t uncommon in this area (west coast of Canada), I seldom see them as they’re hidden in our woods.

Thank you for following my blog. I fear my own attempts at occasional photography are very poor but hope you like my writing! Anyway, just to say this is a fabulous picture. I am English and now live in Australia. They get woodpeckers in the UK and I have always loved them so fascinating to see the Hispaniolan one.
