Yellow Warbler

Day 116 / 365

You’re the yellow bird that I’ve been waiting for!

Interesting Fact: Their open, cuplike nests are easy to find, and cowbirds often lay eggs in them. Yellow Warblers in some areas thwart these parasites by building a new floor over the cowbird eggs and laying a new clutch of their own. In one case, persistent cowbirds returned five times to lay more eggs in one nest, and an even more persistent warbler built six layers of nest floors to cover up the cowbird eggs. 1. So did both sets of eggs hatch? Seems like the bird sitting on the eggs on top of the eggs would provide warmth for all.

  2. What a startlingly beautiful yellow and well contrasted against the duller background. Interesting information as well.

  3. The bird is like a ray of sunshine in a brown world!! Great shot. Warblers are such lively little birds šŸ™‚

    • Thank you very much, and I am sure they are around. But they do stay out of site. It took me 45 minutes sitting in the tree to snap a photo of one. šŸ™‚
