Common Gallinule Chick
Day 133.5 / 365
Cute little chick and screaming for it mom.
Interesting Fact: Despite lacking either webbed or lobed feet, the Common Gallinule is an excellent swimmer. ( http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/464/overview/Common_Gallinule.aspx )
Now those I know we don’t have in New Jersey!
No we don’t this is in Dominican Republic all last week I was shooting over there. A lot of interesting wildlife there. 🙂
Over here we call her a Moorhen – so definitely a Swamp Chicken 🙂
Yeah that is where I found the most of them in a swamp it wasn’t to pleasant. But I got some good shots of them. 🙂
Nice shot.
Thank you very much. 🙂
Nice “catch”!
Thank you, I was very excited when I came across her and her chicks. 🙂
Nice! Have you seen the Pukeko in New Zealand? It is like a huge version of this…at least I assume they are related…
I never seen that Pukeko bird, but I just researched and wow very similar. Thank you for sharing that with me. I love finding out new info. Now I have to make my way to New Zealand to photograph that one as well. 🙂
You may also be interested in the Takahe which is flightless and much stockier than the pukeko. There are only around 250 of those left in the world and I have been hugely privileged the see 3 of them over the past year.
That is amazing, that is another bird that I must put on my list to see. Wow so cool I never heard of this one as well. But from the info that I research on them, Takahe seams very interesting. Thank you again. 🙂
There is a good online resource called nzbirdsonline should it be helpful in planning a trip! 😄
Thank you very much, I will look in to that. 🙂
Reblogged this on William Chasterson.
Thank you very much, for enjoying my work, makes me really happy. 🙂

Thank you very much, that means a lot to me. 🙂
