Stairway To Heaven

Bridge

F/6.3, 30.0, ISO 100.

Day 2 / 365

To some people it may look like a stairway to heaven, but to most of us it’s just a New Jersey Turnpike. ( Which is no heaven )

Interesting Fact: If you wanted to visit Bruce Springsteen’s hometown of Freehold, what NJ Turnpike exit would you take?  Exit 8 is Heightstown – Freehold. But don’t go to Freehold expecting to visit a Springsteen Museum – there isn’t one. According to an article by fellow Freehold native Mark Hyman in “Business Week” in 2000, that’s the way The Boss likes it. Apparently he wants things to be low-key and “normal” when he goes there to visit his old haunts. ( http://www.funtrivia.com/en/subtopics/The-New-Jersey-Turnpike-What-Exit-297450.html )

365 Project-The Beginning

Happy New Year 2015

F25.0, 20.0, ISO 100.

1 /365

The time is here to start my 365 project. First photo of the year seems proper.  Stay tuned to see my other ideas for this project.

Interesting Fact: The earliest known New Year celebrations were in Mesopotamia and date back to 2000 B.C. ( http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/12/world/new-years-fast-facts/ )

Never Forget

9/11

F/11.0, 30, ISO 100.

This is a photo that I took last year while visiting a memorial for 9/11 downtown Jersey City. Words do not do it justice. Today lets all stand together and pay tribute to the ones we lost. You will not be forgotten- instead you will live in our hearts forever.

Interesting Fact:   The Tribute in Light is an art installation of 88 searchlights placed next to the site of the World Trade Center to create two vertical columns of light in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. It is produced annually by The Municipal Art Society of New York. ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribute_in_Light )

Manhattan means “Island of the hills” in Algonquin Indians Language.

Island of the hills

F/5.0, 1/80, ISO 400.

As the sun is setting, it shines on the skyline of Manhattan. It is worth it to stick around and experience the colors.

Manhattan

Interesting Fact: On May 24, 1626 Algonquin Indian tribe sold island of Manhattan to a Dutch explorer Peter Minuit for about 24 dollars (or $680 today) worth of trinkets and tools.

The Empire State Building

Empire State

Night photography is a lot of fun if you find the right object.

Interesting Fact: The Empire State Building was designed so that the top of the building could be used to dock zeppelins. Zeppelins were airships that never became as popular as had been predicted.
