Northern Flicker
Day 111 / 365
What do you call a woodpecker that lost his beak?
A Head-Banger.
Interesting Fact: Although it can climb up the trunks of trees and hammer on wood like other woodpeckers, the Northern Flicker prefers to find food on the ground. Ants are its main food, and the flicker digs in the dirt to find them. It uses its long barbed tongue to lap up the ants. ( http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Flicker/lifehistory )

Nice onomatopoeia! I think they sound like a car that won’t start. Lovely picture too. 🙂
Thank you very much, i appreciate you stopping by and enjoying my work. 🙂

Thank you. 🙂
Nice photo!
The title of this post made me smile once it registered with me what you were referencing.
Thank you very much, I was hoping that some people would recognize the title. It was a little risky, but I like taking risks. I appreciate you stopping by and enjoying my work. 🙂
Good bird and very nice shot!

Nice shot of the flicker. I saw one the other day, first one near where I live.
Thank you very much, I heard that they have been popping out all over the place this year. Last year I haven’t see any, so I was happy when I got close to one. 🙂
sweet bird
Thank you very much. 🙂
It’s a female – no mustache. :-0
🙂
Fantastic photo. I have never seen a Northern Flicker. This was a very interesting post. Hugs
Thank you very much, this is the first time I came across him that he was that close. Usually he sees me coming from far away and flys away. But this time my ninja skills came in handy. Hahaha Lol. 🙂
That is great you got that beautiful shot. We have them here in Arkansas but they have never shown themselves at any of my feeders that I have seen.
Thank you. They are beautiful bird, I was truly happy that day when I snapped that photo. 🙂
