Ted and Fred were walking home from the pub. Ted says to Fred, “What a beautiful evening, look at the moon.” Fred stops and looks at Ted, “You are wrong, that’s not the moon, that’s the sun.” Both started arguing for a while when they come upon a real drunk walking in the other direction, so they stopped him. “Sir, could you please help settle our argument? Tell us what that thing is up in the sky that’s shining. Is it the moon or the sun?’ The drunk looked at the sky and then looked at them, and said,
“Sorry, I don’t live around here.”

Awesome shot! I’m a total novice and I attempted a moon shot a couple of nights ago- in manual mode on my zoom lens. Despite my rickety tripod and the rediculous table I set it on to get the shot, the picture came out decent by not great. I tried the tungsten light setting so the moon would be moon colored rather than green….so my question: did you use auto on your lens and what lighting mode do you suggest for these shots. ( I get green all the time….may I reiterate, I am new at this!😬😬😬)
Thank you for enjoying my work. I can definitely help you I wish I knew what camera you shooting with. But let me try to give you some pointers. Use a tripod for sure and timer on your camera. Shoot in manual mode, set your White Balance to Direct Sunlight. Set your F stop to as low as you can, Set your speed too about 1/250. And your ISO to bout 400 or so. I did have my camera lens on auto focus, since looking at the moon can be blinding. Give that a try and see how it works out for you. I appreciate you stopping by. 🙂
You are so awesome for responding! I am shooting with a canon Rt3 and the canon zoom ef 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens for the moon shots and anytime I sit up on my little hill waiting for cool cloud pictures…;) I really need a new set of lenses since mine are not as pristine as they once were. If the sky is clear this evening, I am going to put your advise to work. I took some last night and they came out ok but there were misty little clouds that kept sneaking into the shots which was blurring the brilliance!

A couple of nights ago I was on the go and I took my camera (of course) and as I was walking back from taking pictures of the sunset, I pointed my camera up and took a few shots (quickly) of the moon… And it turned out to be the best shot yet for me! And I have no idea what setting my camera was on- I just took the ISO down to 100 really quickly since I was rushing home. I will be trying your suggestions (hopefully for the next two nights) before the big BLUE moon is supposed to emerge. I’ll let you know how it goes! I did post the moon shot from the other night, if you want to check it out. Since you’re experienced you might laugh, but hopefully not!😜
