Eastern Kingbird

Day 161 / 365

I see you, if you come any closer I will show you why they call me kingbird.

Interesting Fact: The scientific name Tyrannus means “tyrant, despot, or king,” referring to the aggression kingbirds exhibit with each other and with other species. When defending their nests they will attack much larger predators like hawks, crows, and squirrels. They have been known to knock unsuspecting Blue Jays out of trees. I am so amazed by your pictures and the sheer amount of patience it must take to get them. I have to take tons of pictures of my parrots before I get one or two that turn out the way I want. You are a very talented photographer.

Reminds me of the black Durango, common to Guam and the western Pacific islands. During nrsting season it’ll swoop and peck at larger animals–including humans–who venture too close to it’s next. Always makes a buzzing sound when it dives.
