Day 15 / 365

Oh the city glows so bright tonight.

Interesting Fact: New York City has more people than 39 of the 50 states in the U.S. ( http://bigappled.com/2014/03/31/41-random-facts-about-new-York/ )

Stairway To Heaven

Bridge

F/6.3, 30.0, ISO 100.

Day 2 / 365

To some people it may look like a stairway to heaven, but to most of us it’s just a New Jersey Turnpike. ( Which is no heaven )

Interesting Fact: If you wanted to visit Bruce Springsteen’s hometown of Freehold, what NJ Turnpike exit would you take?  Exit 8 is Heightstown – Freehold. But don’t go to Freehold expecting to visit a Springsteen Museum – there isn’t one. According to an article by fellow Freehold native Mark Hyman in “Business Week” in 2000, that’s the way The Boss likes it. Apparently he wants things to be low-key and “normal” when he goes there to visit his old haunts. ( http://www.funtrivia.com/en/subtopics/The-New-Jersey-Turnpike-What-Exit-297450.html )

I Cannot Believe Another Day Is Over!

verrazano bridge

F/11.0, 1/250, ISO 100

This guy enjoying the sunset over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is probably wondering how cold the water is and if he will ever make it across. Or he may be singing in his head a Britney Spears song “Oops!…I did it again”

Interesting Fact: The first driver to cross the bridge wore a rented tuxedo and piloted a “pale blue Cadillac convertible with flags flapping from the fenders,” nabbing the distinction because he had parked behind the Staten Island toll for a week, guaranteeing the position. It’s Not Always What’s In Front Of You ” SO TURN AROUND TO SEE WHAT REALLY MATTERS “

down town jersey city

This actually caught my eye as I was leaving down town Jersey City. People always say keep looking ahead, well I say look all around you, because you never know what you will see.

Interesting Fact: With its 18-piece spire, 1WTC stands at 1,776 feet, a direct reference to the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. ( http://www.rd.com/slideshows/fascinating-trivia-about-one-world-trade-center/ )

Never Forget

9/11

F/11.0, 30, ISO 100.

This is a photo that I took last year while visiting a memorial for 9/11 downtown Jersey City. Words do not do it justice. Today lets all stand together and pay tribute to the ones we lost. You will not be forgotten- instead you will live in our hearts forever.

Interesting Fact:   The Tribute in Light is an art installation of 88 searchlights placed next to the site of the World Trade Center to create two vertical columns of light in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. It is produced annually by The Municipal Art Society of New York. ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribute_in_Light )

Lightning Vs Fierworks Face Off!

4th july

F/8.0, 1/250, ISO 140, Photoshop CS6.

Last night, here on the East Cost, lightning bolts occupied the sky and gave us quite a show.  Tonight it is time for the colorful fireworks to put on a performance.  Let’s see who will be the winner…

Manhattan means “Island of the hills” in Algonquin Indians Language.

Island of the hills

As the sun is setting, it shines on the skyline of Manhattan. It is worth it to stick around and experience the colors.

Interesting Fact: On May 24, 1626 Algonquin Indian tribe sold island of Manhattan to a Dutch explorer Peter Minuit for about 24 dollars (or $680 today) worth of trinkets and tools.

The Empire State Building

Empire State

Night photography is a lot of fun if you find the right object.

Interesting Fact: The Empire State Building was designed so that the top of the building could be used to dock zeppelins. Zeppelins were airships that never became as popular as had been predicted.
