Turkey Vultures

What did the hot dog say after the race?

I’m a winer!

Interesting Fact: Turkey Vultures eat carrion, which they find largely by their excellent sense of smell. Mostly they eat mammals but are not above snacking on reptiles, other birds, amphibians, fish, and even invertebrates. They prefer freshly dead animals, but often have to wait for their meal to soften in order to pierce the skin. They are deft foragers, targeting the softest bits first and are even known to leave aside the scent glands of dead skunks. ( https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Turkey_Vulture/lifehistory )

Love todays title LOL. Vultures have a keen sense of smell. So Eau de Carrion is fine but no Eau de Skunk. Strange. I smell skunk a lot in city streets lately — a strain of marijuana.

Ha ! My daughter and I drove past a similar scene years ago – she said ‘The vultures at the life guard.” Made me laugh so hard.

The photo/caption combination would be hilarious at any time; an extra layer of dark humor comes from appearing while the US Congress clumsily pretends to be “reforming” healthcare.

Hahaha I know I shouldn’t laugh but it is kind of funny in a dark way. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us. Happy Blogging! πŸ™‚

Here’s another fun fact you might appreciate: some turkey vultures also love cheerios which they’re fed as a special treat in some rehab centers (like the one I volunteer at where all our critters are spoiled ;p)! One of my favorite birds, great post!

Wow that is awesome, who would have thought that they would like cheerios. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing this information with us. Thank you for volunteering more people should do so. Happy Blogging! πŸ™‚

I appreciate an animal that does so much for the ecosystem but catches so much grief for not being ‘cute’. I think they are beautiful! I like that the shot shows them potentially getting into some mischief. πŸ™‚
