Northern Flicker

What do you call a bear with no socks on?

Bare-foot.

Interesting Fact: Northern Flickers generally nest in holes in trees like other woodpeckers. Occasionally, they’ve been found nesting in old, earthen burrows vacated by Belted Kingfishers or Bank Swallows. ( https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Flicker )

Beautiful capture of the back of their head’s coloring, and how cool to see one perched on the grass. I always see them in the trees! 🙂

Not to mention their haunting calls – find yourself out in woods when one of these start going off and the hairs on the back of your neck will start standing up (especially if you suffer from Coulrophobia). Thinking Yellow-Shafted but difficult angle to tell the key features.
