Interesting Fact: Nest building can take from 3 days up to 2 weeks; the finished nest can range from a simple platform measuring 20 inches across to more elaborate structures used over multiple years, reaching 4 feet across and nearly 3.5 feet deep. I have a special love for Blue Herons. One frequently visits the duck pond by my (late) mother’s House. I always feel blessed to see him at those times. I was kayaking on our reservoir once, in a favorite, secluded place where I pass by a rock wall covered in Swallow’s mud nests when a Blue Heton glided right over me to what looked like his home in the taller cliff ahead. I always hope to see him there again.
