Red-tailed Hawk

Where do animals go when their tails fall off?

The retail store!

Interesting Fact: The Red-tailed Hawk has a thrilling, raspy scream that sounds exactly like a raptor should sound. At least, that’s what Hollywood directors seem to think. Whenever a hawk or eagle appears onscreen, no matter what species, the shrill cry on the soundtrack is almost always a Red-tailed Hawk. Beautiful Shot! We have two red tails that sit on the wire along the highway watching for mice in the fields! Dwight

Why, yes, I’ve heard that. Always a startling moment. I didn’t realize it was so distinctive to the red-tail, though. Thanks. You’re a wealth of info (and puns!)

Great shot! I didn’t know that about Hollywood and raptor cries??? I was out shopping for food a few months ago when a bald eagle flew overhead. The sound was magnificent and froze everyone outside in their tracks.

I absolutely love eagles, hawks, any birds of prey. They are so majestic, almost mythical. I feel blessed every time I see one. thanks for sharing the picture

That hawk-scream drives me nuts, especially when they’re showing an eagle. Our eagles around here sound like Tweety Bird. Great blog!
