Interesting Fact: The Sandhill Crane’s call is a loud, rolling, trumpeting sound whose unique tone is a product of anatomy: Sandhill Cranes have long tracheas (windpipes) that coil into the sternum and help the sound develop a lower pitch and harmonics that add richness. They are in my neighborhood daily these days. Hoping a pair will nest on my little lake in the backyard again this year. You hear them before you see them. Lovely birds.

To me it is always a treat to hear them during migration. You hear the flock and sometimes they are so high you have to search the sky to find them!
