Interesting Fact: When diving deep, California sea lions slow their heart rates to allow them to remain underwater for nearly ten minutes before surfacing to breathe. Wonder how they produce the energy required to power their muscles when they are in a chase. Maybe they supercharge their blood with oxygen before diving.

I did not know the California Sea Lion slowed their heart rate to stay underwater longer. I love the photo of the Sea Lion. At first look I focused on the tail section that really appeared as feathers. Then I realized it was not a bird. This is such a tranquil photo of two things not tranquil … the movement of water and the agility of a Sea Lion in it’s ocean home. I love the smooth quality of the water and the transparent features that allow you to slowly take in the Lion through the looking glass of the water. Lovely !!! Thanks for sharing. jan
