Red Mean Stop And Admire!

F/6.3, 1/125, ISO 1000.

Northern Cardinal ( Male )

Did you hear the joke about the roof?

Never mind, it’s over your head!

Interesting Fact: Males sometimes bring nest material to the female, who does most of the building. She crushes twigs with her beak until they’re pliable, then turns in the nest to bend the twigs around her body and push them into a cup shape with her feet. The cup has four layers: coarse twigs (and sometimes bits of trash) covered in a leafy mat, then lined with grapevine bark and finally grasses, stems, rootlets, and pine needles. 1. Great composition! The shallow depth brings my eyes easily to the protagonist. I feel the other bird out of focus is also in a position just right. It also creates an impression that there is a whole flock out there.

  4. Beautiful picture. I saw cardinals a lot growing up in Minnesota. As an adult living in Florida, I’ve only seen them a few times after the passing of dear friends.

  5. This guy has the right to be proud and uppity. He is, after all, the State bird for seven states. You have captured his attitude very well.

  6. Stop when I see red? Definitely would when such a scene was before my eyes. Great shot. Love those sharp eyes, and the brilliant red. Help me understand why the ISO was so high. Thanks for stopping by my site.

    • Thank you very much, I am glad to see that you enjoyed my photo. The high ISO in this photo is actually because of two things, I was in the woods in a really shady area taking a photo of another bird kicking leafs around looking for some food. As soon as I was done and looked up I saw the cardinal. I pointed the camera to take this shot and he flew away. If I would change the ISO I would never get this photo. I actually lost out on few good photos that way. So now i take the shot and then change the ISO to shoot again. Thank you for taking an interest and hope that answered your question. Happy Blogging! 🙂
