I just photographed one of these guys on the ‘lake’ in my back yard. I noticed him because of the wake he kept leaving across the water. I used the Merlin app to identify him, but it didn’t mention the running across the water thing. I thought he was just showing off. After all, he was in his full breeding plumage and probably feeling pretty good about himself.
