Red-breasted Mergansers

Why did the boy eat his homework?

Because his teacher said it was a piece of cake!

Interesting Fact: The oldest recorded Red-breasted Merganser was a female, and at least 9 years, 6 months old when she was shot in Alaska, the same state where she had been banded. ( https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-breasted_Merganser/lifehistory )

  1. Yesterday, as I took a regular, circular on-ramp to the freeway, I slowed and looked carefully the huge rain-formed pond in the circle because I have been seeing so many ducks there lately…different kinds…and there was a mallard sitting on a nest RIGHT next to the road. I stopped to take a picture and almost immediately a Highway Patrol car stopped also. I thought I was in trouble but she just wanted to make sure I was OK. We had a nice visit when I pointed out the duck on his nest and we watched as Mama duck came and switched places with him. AMAZING. Then we both hoped, out loud, that no predators caught sight of the ducklings once hatched. Just then an EAGLE circled right up above us. Yikes! Makes me want to set up camp there. I mean I LOVE Bald Eagles and I know they have to eat, but my very first pet as a kid was a duckling!!! (see https://chosenperspectives.wordpress.com/2016/12/02/fluffy-the-house-duck/ )

Hard to know who to root for!

    • Wow, that is a quite amazing story, I hope that the ducklings will be ok. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your story with us. Happy Blogging! 🙂
